Advent

The twofold character of Advent calls us to prepare for the remembering of the Word made Flesh at Christmas, and directs us to wait with alertness for Jesus’ second coming.

Activity of the Week

Second Sunday of Advent

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • This Sunday’s readings call for change. What changes do you need to make in your life in order to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas?
  • Talk about how your Christmas giving reflects God’s care for creation, for the poor, for others. Support organizations that help impoverished families worldwide become more self-reliant, such as Heifer International and the Fair Trade Federation. For information see:  www.heiferfoundation.org, www.fairtradefederation.org.
  • As a family discuss ways to prepare for God’s coming. Plan some way to bring God’s love at Christmas to someone who is less fortunate than your family.
  • Letter the words “Prepare the Way” on a sheet of poster-board. List on the paper ways your family can prepare for the coming of Christ. Talk about ways to prepare room in your life for God.
