Ordinary Time

For a large part of the liturgical year, we devote ourselves to listening to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects unfolded as we seek God's truth and understanding.

Activity of the Week

Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • As you consider the image of a light in the darkness, how do you participate in that image? How are you and your family working to be a hopeful, steady influence on your neighborhood, your parish, and your nation? How do you give direction to Jesus’ path? Consider as a family how you might improve that image.
  • Look up what your names mean in a reference book (baby names). Do your names imply that you have a purpose or connection to something else? How do your relationships with God and his plan override that meaning? If you could rename yourselves, how would you like to be labeled as children of God?
  • When you chose or will choose your vocation, consider how it glorifies God. Is there any remnant of ego in your choice? Are you using your gifts and talents that God gave you, or are you choosing your own interests? How can you polish your purpose to glorify God and God alone?
