Ordinary Time

For a large part of the liturgical year, we devote ourselves to listening to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects unfolded as we seek God's truth and understanding.

Activity of the Week

Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • Check the newspaper or Internet for politicians or clergy that are living in opposition to what they teach. Discuss the implications of this situation. Why might Jesus teach that you should live as you teach others to live?
  • Discuss some favorite celebrities and consider whether they seek to be glorified for their work and lifestyle. If they live contrary to Jesus’ teaching, will there be a humbling event in their life? List some celebrities who have fallen from grace.
  • Discuss some Catholics who are being considered for sainthood. Have they exalted themselves, or humbled themselves? Sainthood is for all time, and not temporary glory.  How does this equation work? Discuss how Jesus gave us teachings to help us be the best we can be for all time.
