Ordinary Time

For a large part of the liturgical year, we devote ourselves to listening to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects unfolded as we seek God's truth and understanding.

Activity of the Week

Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • We are called to carry our crosses. For your prayer time this week, gather family members in a circle. If you have a crucifix, pass it around the circle. If you do not have a crucifix or cross, make one. Explain: “When the cross is passed to you, quietly pray for strength to carry your own cross. As you wait to hold the cross, silently pray for whoever is holding the cross.”
  • To help your family understand what it means to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, use the following activity: Take off your shoes and trace one of your feet on a sheet of paper. Cut out the outline of your foot. Write down inside the foot how you can follow in Jesus’ footsteps at home, at school or at work. After each family member has completed the activity, place each person’s foot on the floor to create a path. Gather around the footsteps and talk about what it means to follow in Jesus’ footsteps.
  • The choice to follow Jesus includes carrying one’s cross. What is the cross that you carry today? How does Jesus help you carry your cross?
  • Create a poster with your family. On the poster, write ways your family can follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Some suggestions include: Helping one another with household tasks. Visiting someone who is homebound. Being compassionate and listening to one another. Volunteering to help with a parish project that serves the poor.
