For a large part of the liturgical year, we devote ourselves to listening to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects unfolded as we seek God's truth and understanding.

Sunday Readings and Backgrounds

Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)

Reading I : Wisdom 3:1-9

As sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.

  • Those who embrace wisdom will live in grace and mercy with God forever.
  • The deceased survive physical death.
  • There is life after death.

Reading II : Romans 5:5-11

Justified by his blood, we will be saved through Christ from the wrath.

  • The Shepherd is our true guide.
  • With the Shepherd as guide there is no reason to be fearful.
  • The Shepherd guides us in our journey through death to new life in Christ.

Gospel : John 6:37-40

Everyone who believes in the Son will have eternal life and I shall raise him up on the last day.

  • Jesus is the source of eternal life after death.
  • Jesus enacts the will of the "one who sent me."
  • We must receive the Life Jesus offers.
