Reading I : Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12

I saw water flowing from the temple.

  • In the wake of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 587 BC, the Prophet Ezekiel has a vision of an even greater Temple.
  • The Temple pours forth grace for the whole world.
  • Ezekiel's message gave hope to the people during a time of despair.

Reading II : 1 Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17

You are God's temple.

  • You are God's temple.
  • Jesus is like a master builder and he lays the foundation.
  • Because you are the temple of God, you are holy.

Gospel : John 2:13-22

Jesus was speaking about the temple of his body.

  • It was close to Passover and Jesus went to the temple.
  • Jesus saw the people selling animals for people to buy as offerings.
  • Jesus made a whip and drove them out of the temple area.
