Lent

Forty days before the Triduum, the Lenten season disposes Catechumens and the faithful to celebrate the paschal mystery through prayer and penitential practices.

Activity of the Week

Fifth Sunday of Lent

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • God wants us to live and to enjoy the world and people around us. Give each family member a small slip of paper. Have each person write down one thing that keeps him or her from enjoying life. When ready, invite family members to quietly place the slip of paper in a garbage can. Pray a little prayer to thank Jesus for calling you back to life.
  • Plant seeds with your child to help him or her understand death and new life. If planting indoors, fill a plastic container with potting soil. After planting the seeds, talk with your child about watering the seeds and watching for growth. Even though the seeds will die in the soil, they will also reappear in a new form, as a new plant. Explain that the seeds are a symbol of the new life that Jesus gives.
  • Talk about ways to bring new life to your town or neighborhood. What can your family do to help achieve this? Make a plan and carry it out.
