Ordinary Time

For a large part of the liturgical year, we devote ourselves to listening to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects unfolded as we seek God's truth and understanding.

Activity of the Week

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

  • Jesus told the sea to “quiet” and “be still,” and it was. What storms do you need Jesus to calm for you?
  • Have a family discussion about major storms that have occurred in the United States, and their locations. Find a time to pray together. Pray for those affected by major storms.
  • Read today’s Gospel, Mark 4:35-41, with your family. Talk about how you would have felt if you were with Jesus and the disciples during the storm. Make a poster for your refrigerator. On the poster, draw a boat and have each person in the family write his or her name on the boat. At the bottom of the poster, put this caption: “Where two or three are gathered together, there am I in their midst.”
  • Watch the Weather Channel on TV. Take note of any major storms and their locations. Do some research as a family and decide on a charity to donate to that provides disaster relief to storm victims, such as Catholic Charities or The Red Cross.
